Each month we hold a writing contest for our members, by our members. Writers are given parameters, such as a word count and/or a prompt. Entries are judged and discussed blindly. For August, writers had 24 hours to write a 100-word story using a genre, action, and keyword chosen from a pre-selected list.
General Laborer, $20/hr, No Prior Experience Required

“Thanks for meeting me here instead of the office at such short notice.”
I suppressed a cough at the stench of bleach. “Sure.”
A bang resounded from one of the person-sized cylinders in the back of the warehouse and I jumped.
“Temperature changes,” the interviewer said, undisturbed. “And long term absence would be fine for your family?”
“Yes, I live alone.”
“Good.”
I twisted and untwisted the newspaper until it fell onto a coppery stain.
The headline screamed: Another body found! Organ trafficking or serial killer?
“Uhm, what’s the job exactly? The advert didn’t say.”
“Don’t worry. You’ll be perfect.”
